On 21st and 22nd November 2019 at Nobleza Hotel in Kigali, Rwanda Association of Local Government Authorities (RALGA) organized a training session for Gender Equality Transformative Agents of Change from the 6 Secondary City Districts of Rwanda, namely Huye, Muhanga, Rusizi, Rubavu, Musanze and Nyagatare districts. The training session was implemented in partnership with The Hague Academy in the context of the Inclusive Decisions at Local Level (IDEAL) project supported by VNG International. The opening session was graced by Mrs. Francine Tumushime, Deputy Secretary General for RALGA, and Ms. Anouk Lodder, Project Manager at VNG International.
The training session was facilitated by three experts with extensive experience in the Gender Equality area. These are Mr. Eugene Rutabagaye and Ms Angelique Dusenge from Rwanda who will continue with coaching participants after the training, as well as Mr. Freddy Sahinguvu from The Hague Academy in the Netherlands.
The first session of the training allowed participants to assess themselves by presenting and clarifying their problems when it comes to promoting gender equality within their prospective sectors. As for the second session, it focused on gender mainstreaming. Among other things, the second session provided a comprehensive introduction to gender responsive budgeting, allowed to analyze the allocation of resources from a gender perspective and to distinguish the different methodologies for gender budgeting.
