From 26 to 28 November 2019, Rwanda Association of Local Government Authorities (RALGA) organized a training session on rural - urban value chain development in Agri-business for staff from the 6 secondary city districts of Rwanda, namely Rusizi, Huye, Muhanga, Musanze, Rubavu and Nyagatare. The training took place at La Palisse Nyandungu Hotel. The target group of the training were Directors and Cash Crop Officers of the Agriculture and Natural Resources (ANR) Unit, Directors and Promotion Officers of Business Development and Employment (BDE) Unit, Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs) and Cooperative Development Officers. The training was in the context of the Inclusive Decisions at Local Level (IDEAL)project supported by VNG International. The opening session was graced by Mrs Francine Tumukunde, Deputy Secretary General for RALGA and Ms Anouk Lodder, Project Manager at VNG International.
The training session aimed at enhancing the capacity of participants to elaborate effective strategies to advance rural-urban value chain development in Agri-business to stimulate employment and job creation. In addition to key theories, case studies, real case discussions and group work assignments, participants to the training sessions made field visits to the Rwanda Agriculture Board (RAB) seeds production station located at Mulindi, and to the National Agricultural Export Development Board (NAEB). They committed to put in practice the acquired skills and to share knowledge with colleagues back to their districts.
